1. Do I have to wear a JROTC uniforms, is this true?
Yes, as a cadet, you are required to wear uniforms. Chapin High School works on a block schedule, (A-day holds periods 1-4, B-day holds periods 5-8) and depending on what day your class period falls on, you are required to wear a uniform on Wednesday or Thursday.
2. What is PT/ On what days do we do PT/ What do I wear on PT days/ Do I have to participate?
PT is Physical Training, much like a regular gym class. We are scheduled to go out on Mondays/Tuesdays, and it is recommended you wear comfortable, athletic clothing. Everyone is required to participate. If you have a medical condition, be sure to get a doctor's note and notify the SAI or AI before going out.
3. Is JROTC a recruiting program?
No, JROTC is not a recruiting program, you will not be drafted into the military.
4. I hear there are major inspections and regular inspections, what are those?
Throughout the year, we conduct inspections. They are on the same days you wear your uniform, be sure to look your best and know your knowledge. There are at least two major inspections each year in which our battalion is inspected by the personnel in the Director of Army Instruction (DAI) office. These are called DAI and every third year our headquarters in San Antonio conduct a Formal Inspection.
5. What are some of the required events I must be in?
Each cadet is required to be in at least three parades (Black History Parade, Veteran's Day Parade), attend Military Ball, and Annual Review and Awards Ceremony (1st Friday in May each year). More information will be out soon.
6. Can I join a team?
Yes, anyone can participate in an extra-curricular team (Drill Team, Color Guard, Honor Guard, Rifle Team, Orienteering Team, and Physical Fitness Team). Must maintain UIL eligibility (pass all classes) in order to participate and compete with these teams.
